Brief:

The clients for this project were a family with children of both primary and secondary school age. They required a new living space to the rear, with a feature kitchen, and they also wanted separate TV rooms for children and adults in the home. We prepared two design options for this scheme, and articulated them using traditional architectural design models.

The first version required major structural work to the existing house, and sought to make more efficient use of the existing space. It included feature glaging to both the roof and rear walls. It was centred around a sunken, south facing garden and also included a raised patio, so that the house would have a mixture of relationships between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The later version required more striaght forward retaining works to the existing house, and would have been more cost effective. It had a high ceiling with a zinc covered roof, and provided very spacious living and dining spaces.
