House Extension, Raheny, Version 2

Date: March 2010

Services Provided: Stage 1 Design Services Only

Brief:

This was the second variation of the design for this house extension. The clients decided that they wanted a larger extension than that initially described. This version took account of the fact that the north facing orientation was not suitable for a large opaque roof, and that the existing dining room and kitchen would lose a lot of light.

DKAD used a large feature box- rooflight to open the roof, and allow light to enter the plan at it’s deepest point. In order to assess different types of roof lights, and roof designs on the basis of the amount of light they would admit, DKAD prepared photometrically accurate digital renderings. These renderings specified the location, orientation, time of day and time of year, and gave the clients a precise image of how the space would look.
